co-dependency

We suffer co-dependency when we cling to another person’s company despite that individual’s emotional immatureness.

A “normal” person would break up with such a romantic partner if the extreme jealousy continues, but a codependent boyfriend/girlfriend will stay no matter what. Of course, they will complain but will not find a way to end that relationship because of the co-dependency developed over the months or years.   Even if the sober partner remains sober, the links to the alcoholic or addicted partner reveal a lot of your personality.
